IWCA member, Mary Ann Russell has sent the sad news that IWCA member and Irish Wolfhound rescue volunteer, Jane Banaszak, died on Thursday, 9 October 2014, after a lengthy illness.

Jane’s introduction to IWs was in the early 1970s when she acquired Siobhan, a puppy from my first litter. Siobhan eventually became US Ch. Siobhan O’Born of Erinmore ... she’s pictured in the first edition of Al DeQuoy’s book.

Over the years Jane had a number of other hounds, some of whom she showed, but all of them were much loved family members. Jane never bred a litter but she played an active role in matters pertaining to our breed. She did a bit of showing, served as IWCA Treasurer, volunteered her services both as an IWCA contact for breed information and rescue. From time to time she and husband Greg graciously hosted gatherings at their home for other IW owners as well as potential new comers.

Jane was a true guardian of our breed. Her dedication to the welfare of Irish wolfhounds serves as an example for all of us. She will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 from 10:00 am until the time of the 12:00 noon funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 225 S. Hartwell Avenue, Waukesha, WI. Father Howard Haase will preside. Private family interment will be held on Thursday at Prairie Home Cemetery.

Donations can be made to the Irish Wolfhound Foundation, designated for Rescue.
